Celebrating Creativity: A Special Evening Honouring Abotz at the Red Eight Gallery

This was no ordinary evening—it marked a momentous occasion as we celebrated the final finalist of this year’s Dubel Prize: the extraordinary Abotz. Born and raised in the vibrant neighborhood of Kilburn, North West London, Abotz has carved out his path as a talented freelance artist with deep roots in the world of graffiti and street art.

The event took place in the heart of the city at the Red Eight Gallery in Bank. With over 180 guests in attendance, the gallery buzzed with excitement. The evening was hosted by the Dubel Prize’s visionary Founder, Damian Alexander Dubel, who welcomed guests eager to witness the captivating work of Abotz, a true testament to the evolving world of urban art.

Abotz: A Journey Through Graffiti and Street Art

Reflecting on his journey, Abotz shared, “My graffiti and art life started when I was as young as 10 years old. You could say I became slightly obsessed with it all from a young age.” His passion for graffiti was ignited by a close friend who introduced him to the world of tagging. “He encouraged me to give it a go, and ultimately, I didn’t need much convincing.” From that point on, Abotz’s interest only deepened as he began to notice graffiti all around him, sparking an insatiable curiosity to learn more.

Today, Abotz's work draws from a unique blend of nostalgia and modern flair. Using beloved cartoon characters like Pinky and Benny the Cat as his muses, he adds his own artistic twist—often featuring symbolic elements like his iconic “££ eyes.” As Abotz explained, “I feel as if everyone, young and old, can relate to them, which is something I wanted my art to do.” This fusion of familiar imagery and fresh perspective has made his work stand out in the contemporary art scene.

A Night of Inspiration and Celebration

The gallery was filled not only with art but with music that kept the evening alive. The talented performers from 8 Ray Group provided the perfect soundtrack for the celebration, adding an extra layer of excitement to the night.

Guests wandered the gallery, admiring Abotz’s bold and colorful pieces while exchanging thoughts on the striking blend of street art with elements of pop culture. The atmosphere was one of reflection and celebration—a tribute to the raw, rebellious spirit of graffiti, and the evolving beauty of modern art.

As we reflect on the remarkable evening at Red Eight Gallery, we’re reminded of the power of art to bring people together and evoke a sense of shared experience and connection. Abotz’s journey, from a young graffiti enthusiast to a celebrated artist, is a story of passion, persistence, and creativity—qualities that the Dubel Prize seeks to honor.

With the final event on the horizon, we’re filled with anticipation for what’s to come. Until then, enjoy this video recap of the evening, and we look forward to seeing you at the grand finale in a few weeks!
